Recovering from Ankle Surgery
I love the rain
The sound of the drops hitting the ground outside is soothing
I just want to listen
Shhhhhhhhhhh
I say
Now I can hear in the clear .
The rain has so much to say
I want to splash around in the puddles
To run outside and play
But this damn aching foot is getting in my way.
Why does it seem to hurt more at night when I'm about to go to sleep
Tomorrow will arrive next year are the only thoughts to keep.
Be quiet all in the house, close your eyes and rest
In about a thousand days I'll put it to the test
For now that's how far away it seems that I'll be at my best.
Thankfully reality strikes and in more than a few weeks
I'll be walking down the paths of old until I reach the creeks.
For now the only sound I hear is farts from my son
The pitter patter of the rain distracts me from the smell
That makes me think about the times when I was well.
Well, maybe that's not the truth so much as I wanted to say
When all of the political corrections stood in the way
Don't say this, you can't say that was all I could hear
Along with the pitter patter of the rain not ready to disappear.
My son laughs and I don't think it's funny
That smell that lingers just doesn't make my sense of humor grow
Tomorrow maybe I will laugh
