Make a Statement

 "What was that?" I blurted out as I woke from slumber to the lack of white noise. The fan, the lights, they all went out simultaneously. 

I thought about the ship that hit the Francis Scott Key bridge recently. How did the crew members feel when the power went out before the ship hit the pillar of the bridge, causing its collapse? 

The colonies is a small community we live near, close enough that when our power went out at 2am the other night, the power went out in the colonies too. 

When I think of the colonies next to our house, it gives me a better comparison to what The Thirteen Colonies might have been like back in the 1700s. 

Also known as the beginning of the United States of America. 

The Thirteen Colonies were under the rule of England. 

When new laws that were passed seemed unfair to the colonists, they wanted to make their own laws. Also known as freedom: being able to make one's own choices. 

In 1775, the American Revolution began for this reason, lasted 8 years, with George Washington as our leader. 

On July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was accepted as a foundational building block of the United States of America. 

Written by the great writer and thinker, Thomas Jefferson with the assistance of Benjamin Franklin emerged this timeless piece, the Declaration of Independence. 

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."
